Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics -applications to Nuclear and High Energy Physics *

چکیده
A variety of phenomena in nuclear and high energy physics seemingly do not satisfy the basic hypothesis for possible stationary states to be of the type covered by Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) statistical mechanics. More specifically, the system appears to relax, along time, on macroscopic states which violate the ergodic assumption. Some of these phenomena appear to follow, instead, the prescriptions of nonextensive statistical mechanics. In the same manner that the BG formalism is based on the entropy SBG = −k ∑ i pi ln pi, the nonextensive one is based on the form Sq = k(1 − ∑ i p q i )/(q − 1) (with ∗To appear in the Proceedings of the X International Workshop on Multiparticle Production Correlations and Fluctuations in QCD (8-15 June 2002, Crete), ed. How the Nonextensivity Parameter Affects Energy Fluctuations
In this article, the effect of the nonextensivity parameter on the energy fluctuations of nonextensive systems is studied in two different versions of the Tsallis statistical mechanics. Once a general expression has been reported for the energy fluctuations in the second version (Tsallis work in 1988), the energy fluctuations of an ideal gas and a harmonic oscillator are studied in the second a...
متن کاملNonextensive statistical mechanics: a brief review of its present status
We briefly review the present status of nonextensive statistical mechanics. We focus on (i) the central equations of the formalism, (ii) the most recent applications in physics and other sciences, (iii) the a priori determination (from microscopic dynamics) of the entropic index q for two important classes of physical systems, namely low-dimensional maps (both dissipative and conservative) and ...

Annually, many people are irradiated for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Assessment of radiation dose and its related risks to patients are important issues in radiation protection dosimetry. The complex mathematical calculations of the absorbed and effective doses are now done with computers. The calculations are performed with the help of anthropomorphic computational models of human bod...
متن کاملSuperstatistics in high energy physics: Application to cosmic ray energy spectra and ee annihilation
We work out a superstatistical description of high-energy scattering processes that takes into account temperature fluctuations in small volume elements. For Γ-distributed fluctuations of the inverse temperature one effectively obtains formulas similar to those used in nonextensive statistical mechanics, whereas for other temperature distributions more general superstatistical models arise. We ...
متن کاملGeneralized statistical mechanics of cosmic rays
We consider a generalized statistical mechanics model for the creation process of cosmic rays which takes into account local temperature fluctuations. This model yields Tsallis statistics for the cosmic ray spectrum. It predicts an entropic index q given by q = 11/9 at largest energies (equivalent to a spectral index of α = 5/2), and an effective temperature given by 59TH , where kTH ≈ 180 MeV ...
